School of Counseling

The School of Counseling is for all who are interested in counseling and who would like to be equipped to handle many of the problems people struggle with today.
This course will equip you with knowledge and the understanding of the necessary skills a counselor needs. It is our goal for you and others to become whole.

The school has three levels. The foundation course (level 1) offers you some of the basic tools as well as an overview of different kinds of counseling and the responsibilities of a counselor.

The course is for all who are interested in counseling and have a heart for others, but also for those who are already involved in caring and counseling.

The teaching will also benefit people occupying a leading position in the church, such as youth leaders, pastors etc.
The advanced Christian counseling course (level 2) is an expanded and intensive training for students who have accomplished the foundation course or who have been evaluated as qualified for level 2, based on a personal interview.

Level 3 is for those who want to work as a counselor in their local church. The accomplishment of the advanced course is required for the level 3 course, which offers a diploma on completion. The course is offered if there are enough students.

For the level 1 course, we will focus on topics such as: what makes a good counselor, biblical counseling principles, communication, active listening, stress and burnout. It is our goal to equip you to meet people in pain.

We will focus on a broad spectrum of subjects and emphasize biblical principles during the level 2 course. Here are some of the topics:
attitudes and skills of the counselor, sexuality, sexual abuse, self-care rejection, depression, loss and trauma (bereavement and crisis). It is our goal to enable you to apply different counseling methods and to prepare you for some of the main topics that you will deal with as a counselor.

The School of Counseling offers a program of two 9-month courses
from September to July, consisting of three terms of teaching, three months each. There are eight weekly lessons of teaching in the School of Counseling. In addition to that, you have to expect some study time on your own.

You will work with case studies, writing assignments, projects, and book reports. The School of Counseling is mostly taught in Danish with simultaneous interpretation into English.

We collaborate with Barnabas Training International which started in the eighties. They have been working together with Pilgrims Hall in Essex since 1993, a well-established center for counseling and the training of counselors.

The training is accredited by the Association of Christian C
ounselors (ACC UK) and by the Open College Network in England.
